A secondary use for a drug that makes me nervous

The BBC describes a secondary use of
beta-blockers
that helps
people forget traumatic events. At first glance, this seems to help
patients such as those suffering from PTSD. However, in addition to the
issues raised in the article, I have to question:

  • Is preventing the formation of a memory the best way to deal with psychological trauma?
  • What the hell else is this drug doing if it’s lowering blood pressure and screwing around with your neurotransmitters?
