“Ethnic drug”

Some people are banging their chests over the first “‘ethnic drug'”:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4618749.stm approved by the FDA(Food and Drug Administration). I’ve seen data on hypertension by race, and the differences will surprise you. There really is a marked difference, and we need to anticipate them so that we can effectively help our black compatriots with heart issues. To have a drug that has been shown to help specifically people of African origin is especially important because current therapies simply _don’t work_. There is something biological going on — the data show it. If the doctors banging their chests want to prescribe BiDil to their white patients and they think it will help, they should feel free to do so. Let’s not screw up a potentially lifesaving medication by complaining about race.
