If you haven’t done it already, you’ll need to make life-changing decisions next year

Dr. Cliff Arnall, who earlier this year made headlines by suggesting that January 24 is the most” depressing day of the year”:http://www.ibiblio.org/smiley/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=144, is at it again by suggesting that May 18 is the “best day to make life changing decisions”:http://www.scienceblog.com/cms/node/8003. From the article:

He devised the formula M x O + Bh (H+R) x S to discover that New Year resolutions stand a better chance of success if they are made on May 18.

Under the formula M stands for motivation and O for opportunity while Bh is bank holiday proximity.

The H in the second half equals increasing hours of daylight, while R equals reflection time and S, simply success.

Of course, as we all know, life-changing decisions can be effectively made any time of the year, and sometimes we are unexpectedly forced into making them. Watching Dr. Arnall think is amusing and a little insightful, if nothing else.
