How COX-2 inhibitors increase the risk of heart disease and stroke

The evidence showing a strong association between selective COX-2 inhibition (from Vioxx™, Bextra™, or Celebrex™) and risk of heart disease and stroke has been piling on ever since Vioxx™ was removed from the market in the fall of last year. Now, we have studies that get into the nitty-gritty of exactly “_how_ COX-2 inhibitors do this”:http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/05/050525110001.htm. This is useful information because it might lead to clinical tests that help determine the risk-benefit balance of going on COX-2 medication and might even inform dosage.

Personally, I’ll stay away from the stuff.
